    St. Vincent Parish Catholic Youth Ministry Staff Presents:  Say YES! to Jesus Christ Lent Retreat
    March 3, 2012, 8:30 am – 10 pm (middle school, grades 5-7)
    March 3-4, 2012, 1 pm to 10 am (high school, grades 8-12 lock-in)
    ****Bring your blue YM backpacks – empty, to use during the retreat ****

    This year we are inviting the teens finishing the 5th grade to join our middle school, and the 8th graders to join the high school lock-in as a moving up rite to the next level in youth ministry. This retreat is designed for separate middle and high school activities, large group activities, and intergenerational family activities. Our location will be on the campus of St. Vincent College and Basilica. Families are invited to join us for 5 pm Mass in the Basilica, dinner & family activity, and swimming from 8-10 pm for an additional $10 per person. (See registration form) Grades 5-7’s retreat ends with swimming. Parents contact me if you would like to chaperone, email Tina Komarinski.   Chaperones must have clearances.

     The United States Conference of Catholic Bishop's Document, Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry outlines three goals for ministry with young people:

    These goals provide the methodological framework upon which the future expansion of youth ministry is based.   Read more about the "Themes and Components of Comprehensive Youth Ministry." 

    • Goal 1: To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
    • Goal 2: To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
    • Goal 3: To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

Jr. High Excursion (Grades 6 - 8)  
Young people meet regularly with the Youth Minister for faith formation and youth activities.

High School Encounter (Grades 9-12)
High school young people meet regularly with the Youth Minister for catechesis and prayer. Activities include events that call youth to community life and service, charge young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today, and focus on the spiritual growth of each young person.

Cancellations Due to Poor Weather Conditions

In the event of unsafe weather conditions the cancellation procedure for Faith Formation and Youth Ministry is as follows:

  1. A Notice will be placed on the front page of the parish website at www.basilicaparishstv.org
  2. An e-mail will be sent to all contacts on our distribution list.  Please let us know if your e-mail address changes
  3. An announcement will be made on the KDKA and WTAE websites, radio and TV where possible.

Weather and road conditions in our region can change quickly and vary from Latrobe, Greensburg and the Westmoreland County Ridges.  PARENTS ARE URGED TO USE THEIR BEST JUDGMENT REGARDING WEATHER AND ROAD CONDITIONS IN THEIR IMMEDIATE AREA.
