Eighteen columns of dark red Peterhead granite are employed in the Basilica. Those in the nave are 14 feet high, two feet wide and weigh four and one-half tons each. Procured through the firm of Batterson and Eisele of New York City, the columns came from Aberdeen, Scotland. The Corinthian capitals of Indiana sandstone are the work of Polish artist Ladislaus Vitalis.
