The main altar was designed by Father Rene Gracida, later a bishop, and blessed on February 12, 1956. The two base blocks of Botticino marble weigh two and one-half tons each, while the cross-slab or mensa of dark green marble from the Swiss-Italian Alp quarries weighs ten tons. Dr. Leo Ravazzi, of the Pietrosanto Marble Studio in Italy executed the four sculptured panels of the base blocks. |
