Religious Formation in the Home

“The young must find in their own families the normal place in which to grow humanly and spiritually. I therefore hope that families will always be true centres of evangelization where each one can experience the love of God that may then be communicated to others and first of all to children”. Pope Benedict XVI

While the Church teaches that parents are primarily responsible for the faith formation of their children, it also teaches, “The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents.” (CCC 2226)

The parish “is the place where all the faithful can be gathered for the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist. The parish initiates the Christian people into the ordinary expression of the liturgical life; it gathers them together in this celebration; it teaches Christ’s saving doctrine; it practices the charity of the Lord in good works and brotherly love.” (CCC 2179)

It is in this spirit and in accord with the Religious Formation in the Home Policy of the Diocese of Greensburg, that Saint Vincent Basilica partners with Homeschooling parents in the Faith Formation of their children and family.

Families choosing Homeschooling or Family Catechesis as their "formal" Faith Formation option must schedule an appointment with Ms. Sharon A. Bogusz, Director of Catholic Faith Formation to register. E-mail Sharon.
