The Role of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry Catechists

Christ calls every member of the Catholic Church to proclaim the Good News of Salvation to every generation.  Christians evangelize by professing faith in Christ, celebrating the sacraments in the Liturgy, praying and embracing the Christian way of life. The content of faith is the heritage of the whole Church.  It is the priviledge and responsibility of all believers to perserve the memory of Christ - is words and deeds -- and to hand on the content of this faith to future generations.

Catechists are called forth from the Church to model Christian discipleship described above.  They bringing a wide variety of talents and abilities to the vocation of catechist.  At the same time, the catechist continues on their own lifelong process of growing in holiness.

The call to be a catechist is not arbitrary but is instead a process of discernment that begins with a desire to share the faith, and an invitation by the pastor or catechetical leader.
